Exhausted (Days 352-356)

I haven't knit a whole lot lately. Don't get me wrong. I've still been knitting but once I got my shawl to 50%, I slowed down. Even though I have at least one more deadline to make in the next couple of days. Even though my plate is full of stuff right now. I've taken my extra time to play word games online and take nice baths.

It's difficult to explain to someone who has never worked in retail just how draining it is but everyone who has been in my very worn, "All Day Comfort" shoes, knows that it is exhausting. I know my shifts are short and my paycheck reflects that I am just part time, but at the end of my day, I want nothing more than to veg out in front of the TV while casually playing games on my phone. (I am really enjoying Tiny Death Star right now because it is easy to play and entertains me.) So knitting isn't my priority. Especially not after days when I have to pack/unpack/move stuff all day. My hands are currently screaming because yesterday involved shoving my hand into very tiny holes and trying to get little bottles of paint organized. My fingers are swollen and stiff and don't really want to knit socks right now. Maybe a crochet a blanket square but definitely not knit on sz 1s.

So don't fret. I'm still knitting. I'm just taking it easy.

First Day (Day 292 KEDfaY)

Today was my first day of work and I survived and they didn't fire me so it might just all work out!

And the coordinator for scheduling classes was very excited to learn that I knit and want to teach! Yay!

As for knitting goes, I got a lot of progress done on my Hush Hush. I am about 5 yards from finishing the second ball of yarn which means I need to go wind the third one. I'm guess right now I'll use 5 balls of yarn which means I'll have an extra to do with as I please. Maybe washcloths since it is cotton, or a granny square. Hmm. But first I need to finish it so I can see how much, if any, yarn I'll have left over. But I enjoy counting my chickens before they hatch, you just have to be careful when you get a duck instead.

(No picture today because I forgot and it'll be a boring picture with little to no visible progress.)

Fleeting freedom (Day 291 KEDfaY)

Today is my last day as an unemployed person. Tomorrow I start my job and become a productive member of society. I am excited but sad that my life as a lazy bum is coming to an end. No longer will I be able to spend my days laying in bed until just before noon. No longer will I be able to go pantsless for the whole day. No longer will I be able to decide what to work on when.

Well, not everyday at least.

Worked some more on my Hush Hush. It's coming along nicely if I do say so myself. I've also been working on the test knit and it's coming along. There are issues with the pattern but hey, that's why I'm here! To find all of the errors and things that people might misconstrue so that the pattern will be 100% awesome.

Right now, I'm going to go spend my last few hours as a free woman, so that means candy, knitting and TV of course.

Money money money....Moneyyy (Day 93 KEDfaY)

She got a new box. She is happy because it didn't instantly rip as soon as she sat in it.
Lots of knitting on the supa sekrit project today. I'm now only mildly anxious about the tiny possibility of running out of yarn but I think everything is going to be okay with it.

If you are a regular reader (hi all four of you!) you might've noticed that there are now ads on my blog. The reason why I did this was because you might've noticed that I am still without a job (hence the reason why I can take so many pictures of the cat. Seriously, I've got tons of them on my phone right now. I've got enough that a crazy cat lady would say I have a problem). I know that I'm not going to make enough to pay a student loan payment with the money I make from ads but it will be more than I'm making now even if that isn't saying much. So, please bear with me. If you spy an ad that is offensive to you in some way, please screencap it and email me. It takes a lot to offend me but when I'm visiting blogs or webcomics, the last thing I want is an ad shouting at me about how I needs ta go ta church or what have you. I want my blog to be entertaining. (You might notice I try really hard at that.)

Also if you are wanting to advertise on my blog, because, you know, you might someday, email me and we'll try to get it figured out! My email address is over there -> somewhere. You're smart people, I'm sure you'll find it.

Maybe one day someone will want to pay me more than just partials of pennies per click through for my random babbles.

Hey, I can dream.

The Hot, Hot Heat

I'm now in Florida!

And it's hot.

My boyfriend and I are slowly settling into our new surroundings. We've had fun exploring the various local restaurants and Florida-only chains. Our new local grocery store is very GF friendly so I am extremely happy. The move itself was uneventful. I got a little teary as I crossed the Indiana/Kentucky border, I won't lie, but I am excited about what's ahead for us.

So far, lots of knitting. It's hard to find a job when you don't know the area, you don't know anyone, you don't have a car and the public transportation system in the city you live in is laughable. My boyfriend and I were driving to meet his parents at a restaurant near the beach (I can say things like that now) before they had gone home from helping us with the move. I saw the first bus I had seen since moving to Florida and it was stopped. We stopped at a light near the bus and I tried to figure out why the bus was stopped for so long. The driver then stepped out of a convenience store close to where he had parked the bus. He stopped the bus, in the middle of his route, to get a drink. Laughable.

So I'm knitting. A lot.

I've already finished two socks and started a third multiple times now. I want to do a self challenge sometime where I knit a whole pair of socks in two days. I think I could. Both of the socks didn't take too long and the second one could've been finished in a day if I hadn't taken a nap during the F1 race. Maybe sometime soon.

I'm trying to find some sort of job but so far it's not going well. It would also help if I knew what the heck I wanted to do. Sure, I'd love to knit all day but so far I haven't found a test knitter position open, or at least not one that pays. I have been working on my own patterns for eventual publication and hopefully to make a little bit of money but it's slow going. I don't know how other designers do it. It seems like every one of them pumps out a new pattern daily (I'm sure this is hyperbole) and I don't even have one finished pattern yet.

It doesn't help my mood with the fact that everyone I talk to about my move then instantly asks me how my job search is going or what I plan to do now that I'm down here. Each time I'm asked that, I want to crawl into a hole even more and the self pity spiral starts up.

On the plus side, the cat and I are getting along much better than I thought we were going to. She has a history of swiping at me and generally being mean to me so I was expecting the worse but she has been my companion the past two days as I clean up and finish unpacking while my boyfriend is at work. It's been a little nice if not completely suspicious.

This sure was a bummer of a post.
